Avera Sacred Heart Hospital

The Avera Sacred Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, contains the Avera McKennan Hospital and University Health Center, which is one of the only hospital centers in the area that offers a high-quality medical education in a variety of fields. The center is composed of the School of Emergency Medical Sciences, School of Radiologic Technology and Avera Laboratory Network. The School of EMS offers professional and innovative certificate programs for Emergency Medical Technician and Paramedic, which can be completed in as little as one year. Students receive top-notch instruction from health industry professionals and gain hands-on experience as they train in an upscale hospital center. The academics offered by the School of Radiologic Technology include a comprehensive a 24-month, fully accredited training program. All students gain access to the Avera Laboratory Network, which is an integrated network of four testing centers that allow the school to monitor their progress so that it can improve the health care in the area. Admissions require students to submit an official high school transcript and ACT scores. Students applying to the School of Radiologic Technology must have job experience shadowing in a radiology department and send in three letters of recommendation.
