As a result, BBA has in recent years been leading in the field of mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, banking and corporate finance, bankruptcy law, PFI projects and general corporate and commercial law on the Icelandic market. This is confirmed by the firm’s top tier ranking in the respective fields by all the major ranking companies. Due to our level of expertise and good reputation we have been entrusted by our local and international clients to provide advice on many of Iceland’s biggest and most complicated financing and M&A deals, as well as the country's most important PFI projects. The Firm was founded in 1998 by Baldvin Bjorn Haraldsson and Asgeir A. Ragnarsson and was the first law firm in Iceland to build its practice exclusively on servicing the business sector. This focus has allowed our lawyers to gain substantial experience and a level of expertise which is second to none in Iceland in, among other areas, corporate law, finance law and general business law. In the recent economic turmoil BBA has however expanded its advisory activities, building on its corporate expertise, and taken an active role in advising both local and foreign clients, banks and public authorities, on debt restructuring and bankruptcy law. Recently the firm has furthermore extended its activities in building up a substantial legal and practical know-how in the field of energy law, both as regards renewable energy, as well as oil and gas.
