Bluefield State College

Bluefield State College strives to provide affordable, accessible education to a diverse student body. One of West Virginia’s three historically black colleges (HBCU), BSC was founded in 1895 and recently began administering two-year programs at New River Community and Technical College, a separate institution. To help foster diversity, Bluefield State’s admissions welcome students of all backgrounds and ethnicities. Recent high school graduates and transfers, as well as non-matriculating, provisional, and international students, are invited to apply. In meeting its goal of affordability, BSC offers several financial aid opportunities. The school participates in Title IV programs in addition to West Virginia state grants, institutional scholarships, and awards funded by outside individuals and organizations. Bluefield State’s academics are currently divided into five schools: * School of Arts & Sciences * The Paul Cole, Jr. School of Business * School of Education * School of Engineering Technology & Computer Science * School of Nursing & Allied Health Altogether, there are over 35 programs of study available at the university. BSC offers both associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in subjects varying from sociology to mining engineering. Student life at Bluefield State includes a number of unique opportunities, including cultural enrichment trips. These day trips, sponsored by Student Support Services, are free with a small deposit (returned at the end of the trip).
