Dhaka Polytechnic Institute

In 1955, two polytechnic institutes were established in Karachi and Dhaka. The present Dhaka Polytechnic Institute (EPPI) was established with the financial support of the Rford Foundation of America under the then CLI department. The three-year diploma-level course, conducted by 120 students in four technologies (civil, mechanical, electrical and power) over a three-year period, was certified as Associates in Engineering, following the curriculum at Oklahoma State University in the United States. Conducted at Dhaka Polytechnic Institute for four years in four technologies (Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Power) Diploma level course was started with 120 students. Later the process of setting up one polytechnic institute in each city of the country started. A total of 16 polytechnic institutes were established in the then East Pakistan. In 1994, 3 new Polytechnic Institutes were established under the Government of Bangladesh. As a result of the far-reaching thinking of the present government, more than 49 government diploma engineering institutes have sprung up in Bangladesh and 23 new polytechnic institutes are in the process of being set up. Technical education is the main tool of economic prosperity of a country. Therefore, considering its needs, it needs further expansion with modern technology. At present, Dhaka Polytechnic Institute has about 10600 (ten thousand eight hundred) students in 12 groups in 12 technologies including Architecture, Automobile, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Electronics, Food, Chemical, Environmental, Air Conditioning.
