GT Advanced Technologies is a leading producer of crystal materials such as silicon carbide and sapphire. The Company uses its decades-long expertise in crystal-growth equipment to now offer the materials that will help shape rapidly expanding markets. In particular, demand for silicon carbide from the EV industry far exceeds supply. This semiconductor substrate material has voltage- and temperature-handling capabilities that far exceed those of silicon. But it is a very challenging material to make. GTAT is at scale now for high-volume production of its CrystX™ silicon carbide, and it has an aggressive cost-down roadmap moving forward.
