Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) serves adult and high school students from the Piedmont, Virginia region by providing degree or certificate programs designed for different ages and educational objectives. PVCC’s Associate of Applied Science degrees are for those who want the training necessary to work in specific technical and medical fields such as: * Electronics and Computer Technology * Nursing * Radiography A second grouping of degree programs lead to an Associate of Arts in the Liberal Arts or Fine and Performing Arts. After receiving an associate’s degree students may also transfer to a four-year school. A third option is the Career Studies Certificate, which takes only one or two semesters to finish and prepares students for careers in such fields as: * Biotechnology * Criminal Justice * Horticulture Career Pathways is yet another educational and career pathway available at Piedmont. This program is designed specifically to give high school students advance training in specific career areas. Student life includes fine and performing arts activities such as student theatre and music performances. PVCC has an open admissions policy, which requires that non-high school students have a diploma or GED or take a placement test prior to enrolling. High school students must be enrolled at one of PVCC’s participating high schools to apply. After filling out an application for admissions, high school applicants will then need to take a placement test, after which their high school counselor will register them at PVCC. Tuition at PVCC is significantly lower for in-state students. Those who have a significant financial need may also apply for grants and work-study. Scholarships are offered (usually based on academic performance) and loans are available as well, regardless of academic performance or income.
