A small community of independent and civic-minded learners, Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, provides a unique approach to liberal arts academics, which includes small learning groups, service learning assignments, outdoor immersion programs and access to world-class authors and scholars. Rollins awards more than 30 degrees in the arts and sciences as well as degrees through its School of Professional Studies. Far more than just textbook learning, Rollins engages students through small group projects and discussions. Students also have the chance to get involved in one of the alternative off-campus learning programs, such as conflict-resolution projects in third-world countries and JUMP, an outdoor learning program. Rollins students also participate in internships and service-learning, using their knowledge to bring solutions to community problems. Student life at Rollins is just as much of an expansive journey. Renowned authors, scholars and artists visit Rollins regularly to lecture and give presentations. There is also an Art Museum and Performing Arts Center right on campus. Students may also join one of more than 140 student organizations and clubs. Admissions requirements vary depending on the student’s background. Those who have a GPA of at least a B+, for example, are not required to submit SAT or ACT scores. In addition to transcripts and test scores, applicants will also need to submit a counselor recommendation and a personal essay. Rollins awards academic scholarships to help students pay tuition costs. To qualify for these scholarships, applicants generally need a GPA of at least 3.3 and an SAT score of at least 1200. Other sources of financial aid include need-based awards like grants, loans and work-study. Students often receive aid packages which combine aid from these different sources.
