Sharjah entered the history of air navigation from the widest doors in the year 1932 when the first plane that arrived in the emirate landed on the runway of Al Mahatta Airport. Throughout the years, Sharjah Airport has established itself as a modern airport that offers distinguished services with international standards through a variety of important initiatives. On land or in the air, Sharjah International Airport and those in charge believe in building bridges between civilizations. Due to this, Sharjah International Airport has implemented an open skies policy since ancient times, allowing airlines to pass without any obstacles. Airports are proud of the competitive rates they offer for landing and handling, backed up by a strong infrastructure and state-of-the-art equipment for maintenance of all aircraft types. The airport developed until the launch of its newest runway in 2014. CAT II Sharjah is the longest runway in the region, with a total length of 4,060 meters. The first flight to land at Al Mahatta runway was in 1932, the year in which Sharjah made aviation history. Since then, Sharjah International Airport has proved to be a modern airport that provides world class services through several groundbreaking initiatives.
