The Practical Nursing Program at the St. Lawrence Lewis County BOCES in Canton, New York, prepares students to contribute to their communities through a quality, innovative health care program. If you’re looking for the skills necessary to begin a career under the guidance of a registered nurse, dentist or physician, the program is for you. Students will learn the skills to take vital signs, apply sterile dressings and assist professionals with health examinations and treatment. During their education, students will shadow health care professionals in a clinical setting, gaining real-world experience that complements their education. All instructors are professionals and supervise and guide students while they apply their training. Whether you intend to pursue further health care training and education or seek immediate entry-level employment, the nursing program has you covered. Academics include certifications as a nursing assistant or aide. Dual-enrollment programs are offered to high school students looking to earn college credits and get on their way to a nursing career while still in high school. Eligible students may receive financial aid through federal grants and loans. Tuition waivers for the Certified Nursing Assistant Adult Education program are available for applicants demonstrating need.
