An Honors College, St. Mary’s offers a student life that abounds with outdoor activities and cultural arts experiences in addition to its strong academics. Academics at St. Mary’s include majors in the liberal and performing arts, languages, humanities and natural and social sciences. Students get to share the campus with other high achieving intellectuals, since all of St. Mary’s students were honors students in high school. Faculty members are well educated, with a substantial number of them having received such impressive awards as the Fulbright scholarship. College life includes a number of extracurricular activities. Outdoor activities such as sailing are popular. There are also more than 100 student organizations and cultural arts activities including on-campus festivals and concerts. Admissions requirements include submission of transcripts or GED scores, an essay, letters of recommendation, SAT or ACT scores and a resume outlining extracurricular activities. Many accepted applicants took AP classes in high school. The average SAT scores range from 1600 to 2020. Federal student loans and grants and state grants are awarded to students with a strong financial need. St. Mary’s also awards a certain number of academic scholarships. Those who do not qualify for these sources of aid or who still need tuition assistance after their aid is awarded may also apply for private loans and outside scholarships.
