Warren Wilson College

Natural beauty and a distinctive curriculum that promotes community service and environmental awareness are what distinguish Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa, North Carolina. With its naturally beautiful surroundings, it’s no surprise that Warren Wilson has a strong commitment to the environment, with a particular focus on “green” living. Consequently, some of its most popular majors include Environmental Studies, Environmental Education, Sustainable Agriculture and Outdoor Leadership. There is also a major in Sustainable Business. Additional academic majors include Creative Writing, History, Social Work and Theatre Arts. Another of Warren Wilson’s unique features is its Triad program, which requires students in all majors to do a certain amount of community service as well as an on-campus work assignment. In keeping with the school’s mission, much of the work and community service is focused on caring for the environment and maintaining a “green” campus. In addition to having a number of environmental groups, Warren Wilson has student theatre productions, a school newspaper and literary magazine, and religious and spiritual organizations. In addition to the money that all students receive from participating in the school’s work program, the majority of eligible Warren Wilson students receive some form of financial aid. Those seeking admission will need to submit an application, transcripts, recommendation letters, an essay and SAT scores.
